Burmese and Thai armies have battled over the centuries.


One thing the invading army does is desecrate the statues and temples of the victims. A big thing is to knock off the head of a Buddha. Other statues are just demolished. I took this picture in Ayutthaya, an ancient capital of Thailand filled with ruins. In this case, local people have picked up pieces of the statues and stacked them in a shape more to symbolize than to resemble a sitting Buddha, often putting a round rock on top for a head, since most loose heads are too broken up to look anything like a head
